Review of Zhai Guangxi ACS Nano of Shandong University: using nanotechnology to enhance tumor immunotherapy and reshape tumor microenvironment
Professor Zhai Guangxi of School of Pharmacy, Shandong University reviewed the related research on the use of nanotechnology to enhance tumor immunotherapy and reshape tumor microenvironment. Immunotherapy using human immune system against tumor has been widely concerned by researchers, and has become one of the mainstream strategies of tumor therapy. Tumor immunotherapy can not only eliminate primary tumors, but also combat metastasis and recurrence. Nanomaterials have been studied more and more in the field of tumor immunotherapy because of their excellent physical and chemical properties, such as efficient tissue-specific delivery function, large specific surface area and controllable surface chemistry.
Generally speaking, immunotherapy based on nanotechnology suppresses tumor mainly through two different ways: one is to produce effective anti-tumor immune response in the process of tumorigenesis; the other is to enhance the immune defense ability against tumor by regulating the immunosuppressive mechanism in the tumor microenvironment. With the development of tumor immunotherapy, understanding the interaction between immune system and intelligent nanomedicine platform also provides a new driving force for further promoting the research of immunotherapy. In this paper, the application, progress and development prospect of nanomedicine in tumor immune programming are reviewed, and some engineering methods to improve the efficiency of tumor therapy are introduced.
